On Saturday, black bloc anarchists made their first mass-appearance in Tahrir Square, Egypt. Shortly after they firebombed the Shura Council (Egyptian Parliament), tore down a section of the protest-barrier walls leading from Tahrir Square, and, with others, engaged in fighting against security forces. The statement and communique below are preparation for the second anniversary of the Egyptian revolution and for what some are calling “a whole new level” of protest in Egypt.
“We are the Black Bloc … seeking peoples’ liberation, the fall of corruption and the toppling of the tyrant,” proclaimed a video announcing the group’s formation, posted online on Thursday. It showed youths dressed in black marching in lines in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria. It continued… “We have arisen to confront the fascist tyrant regime of the Muslim Brotherhood with its military wing,” It went on to warn the police not to interfere “or else we will respond without hesitation.”
When tens of thousands of Egyptians swarmed back into Tahrir Square on Friday to commemorate and continue the revolution that started two years ago, a remarkable and unexpected spectacle began to unfold itself. After two years of broken promises and continued state violence, a group of activists – vowing to protest fellow protesters — positioned themselves at the barricades dressed in black from head to toe, brandishing improvised flamethrowers and clubs, and wearing self-made security force uniforms. When approached by journalists, the masked activists said they refused to talk to the media, but mysteriously “mentioned anarchism” as a source of inspiration for their tactics. A day before, the Associated Press already reported the emergence of a “previously unknown group calling itself the Black Bloc,” who had warned the Muslim Brotherhood not use its “military wing” to crack down on protesters and who claimed responsibility for recent fire-bombings of Muslim Brotherhood offices. Communique (received by Darker Net)
“Yesterday and after we finished our event, we met some of the revolutionary movements and decided to unite together in our next attacks. Hence we did our first two attacks:
1- Setting fire to Ikhwan (Muslim Brotherhood) online office.
2- Setting fire in the Ikhwan office in Al-Manial street in Cairo.
And we announced our revolution from today in Al-Tahrir Square until Egypt and its people get their rights back!
Life, Freedom and social justice!
